Hinduism was born in India. It is the third largest religion in the world. No one has been able to trace back the starter of this religon. During this time the cow became sacred. They follow a religous book called the Vedas. Veda means truth and or knowledge. Its seperated into four sections: "Dharma-rightousness, and religion; Artha-scucess in economic life; Kama- gratification of the senses; and Mokshu- liberation". In the morning Hindu's in India get up and take a bath in the river to cleanse their bodies and their spirits. They also burn insense and make offerings of flowers and other things to a picture of a Hindu God.Each of the Gods represent natural forces such as the "sun and the moon." These rituals took weeks to months to complete and were performed at funerals, parties, and weddings.Sometimes they perform yoga to practice breath control. The Uspanishads introduced "reincarnation" and the caste system. In the caste system, one is born into a caste, and must follow the behavior of that caste.Later on the Brahmans showed the importance of rituals and the giving of gifts to the Gods.

Hinduism is an ancient religion that began in India. This religion has drastically changed from ancient times. Many of the early Vedic practices are now not in use today. For example in Vedic times it was okay to eat beef. However in Modern times this is considered a religious sin, because the cow is a sign of fertility.
The holy texts of the Hindu religion are the Vedas. These were rituals written and performed by Brahmins. The Brahmins were the highest caste in Hinduism. The four castes are Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and the Sudras. Another holy text is the Upanishads. This brought an idea of reincarnation into the religion.
The primary goal of Hinduism is to achieve moksha. Moksha is escaping the cycle of rebirth and rejoining Brahman. This is accomplished by four things. Artha which is economic success. Dharma which is your duty and religion. Kama is gratifying one's senses The last thing is achieving moksha.

Hinduism is the third largest religion with 970 million followers. One of it’s holy text is the Rig Veda ,which is believed to have been created around 600-300 BC. Hinduism is polytheistic because it has many Gods. Many of the teachings contradict one another because of the new and old teachings. It is said that it developed over a period of four thousand years. The teaching that were done during the Veda period are different then the present day Hinduism many have come to know. After the sixteenth century Veda began to fade. Eating cows was not always a sin, but as Hinduism developed cows began to signify the Earth’s fertility.
In addition Hinduism followers have many rituals they conduct. In earlier times these rituals would take anywhere from hours to years. There is a ritual for everything from death to marriage. When the caste system, in which the Brahmins were at the top existed, they were in charge of leading them. This made many people below the Brahmin’s want to revolt. That’s when Buddhism began to come into India. It also had a tremendous influence on Hinduism.
When Followers wake up they take a bath not only to cleanse their bodies but also their spirits. They also part take in the exercise yoga. Another precaution they take is by meditating while staying in the position known as the Lotus. Hinduism is not only practiced in India but also in other areas such as Singapore and Washington DC.

Hinduism originated in India. It is said that Hinduism has 970 million people following this religion. Hinduism was founded by the fusion of Aryan and Dravidian traditions. These traditions lead to the religion we know as Hinduism.
The main goal of Hinduism is to escape reincarnation, which is the rebirth of a soul, and join with Brahman. Along the way to this goal some people may experience samsara, which is when an individual soul is born more than once. While others may experience karma. Karma is the incarnations that a soul may experience. Basically, if someone does some wrongful act, they'll face the consequence of the wrong done.
Followers of the religion, Hinduism, believe that the world and heaven are fused together in the form of a sphere. This is where the idea of reincarnation comes in, were the soul is born and reborn in a continous circle until Brahman is reached. Until that moment with Brahmin is fulfilled, followers of the religion live their everyday lives following the guidelines given by Hinduism.

Hinduism originated in India. It is the third largest religion in the world which developed over a period of 4,000. Most hindus live in India and take baths at sunrise in a lake. The baths not only cleanses the body but also the spirits. Hindus have rituals that worships a statue or picture of one of the hundred gods, goddesess, or spirits. These rituals include burning inscents, and offerings of flowers, fruits, milk, ans sweets. The also do an excercise by the name of yoga which allowes them to practice breath control siiting for hours in a postition called lotus. Their sacred text by the name of Veda reffered to the earliest Hindu scriptures. It was known to have appeared during 600-300 B.C. There was 1,028 hyms of the Veda. The four Vedas were the Dharma, Artha, Kama, and the Moksha. The Dharma focused on rightousness and religion. The Artha focused on sucess and econmomics. The Kama focused on gradification of senses, and the Moksha concentrated on liberation. There were religious poems for the gods who were gods of natural things such as the sun, moon, ans wind. The Hindu god Ingra resembles Zues of greek mythology. These poems were chanted during sacrifice as well as weddings and funerals. The act of reciting was considered sacred and and the sound was considered holy. Poetry was commonly practiced during writings. The rituals could take weeks, months, and even years to preform. They required the presence of many priest. One specific Veda ritual was the Suma. This was liquid produced by crushing some form of vegetation. Priest collected the plant as they sang hyms about searching for and cutting down the Soma plant. This is what i learned from the Hinduism videos. combined paragraphs

Hinduism first began in India. It is the third largest religion in the world having over 970 million followers. Hinduism was born into India over 3500 years ago and had no single founder but rather developed over 4,000 years. Hinduism was a religion that was polytheistic because they believed in many gods. One of the rituals many Hindus do is burning inscents and making offerings of fruits, flowers, milk, and sweets to a statue worshiping one of the hundreds of Hindu gods.
The Holy texts of the Hindu religion is the Vedas. No one knows the exact date that they were written but it is suggested that it was between 600 and 300 B.C. Hindus organized their lives around the four Vedas; Dharma, Arhta, Kama, and Moksha. Dharma stood for righteousness and religious life. Artha which is success and economic life. Next is Kama which is gratification of the senses. Lastly is Moksha, which is liberation from samsara.
In Hinduism, taking a bath was not just for cleaning your body but it also cleansed your spirit and soul. Followers of Hinduism do an exercise called yoga, they would sit for hours practicing breath control in what is called the lotus position. At first people in India ate beef but now it is a sin because over time it became sacred symbolizing the Earth's fertility.

Each day Hindus rise to take a bath that is believed to cleanse their bodies and spirits. Hinduism is full of beliefs and practices and is a mix of new and old practices in Hinduism. During, the Vedic Age, poems were written to describe gods. Most of the poems describe a god named Indra. The Vedas were recited in past many times as a sacred ritual. Today the may be recited at weddings and is still sacred to read them. The most sacred ritual during the Vedic Age was the Soma ritual, which is a liquid that is produced by crushing vegetation. The rituals had priests that specialized in different areas of the rituals. The rituals could take days to years to perform correctly. The Brahmas adopted the belief and believed rituals were sacred and priests were deserving of gifts for performing the rituals. It was believed in that past that they ate beef, but eventually became a sin to eat beef and the cow became sacred. The Vedic Age eventually disappeared and later on came with of new belief of being reincarnated and people kept on living. What caused them to believe in reincarnation? Were there higher caste then the Brahmins?
Hindus revolve their lives around four aims: Dharma which allows them to solicit their religious rights. Artha that stands for success in their economic life. Kama which appreciation for their senses and Moksha which is liberations from Samsara. Hinduism is the 3rd largest religion in the world and is what is practiced by the majority of people in India. How did Hindus come up with Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha?
Hinduism was created 3500 or so years ago in India. The belief in Vedism and Brahmism lead to the creation of Hinduism. The essence of all reality in everyone is called Brahman. Their Hindu beliefs are told throught the Rig Veda, Brahmanas, and Upanishads which described karma which it the fruit of one's actions. Hinduism encourages that people stay in their own castes. Hinduism is one of the major religions of the world.

  10. Hindiusm was born 3500 years ago in its first home, India. It has given birth to a wide variety of ideas and practices. For example, the act of a morning bath not only clensed the body, but clensed there spirits as well. Many Hindus use rituals to worship there many gods (could take a extended amount of time to perform)or even practice the excersise known as "Yoga".
The word Veda (truth) refers to the well known Hindu Scriptures.Other Hindu scripts include the Brahamana and the Upanishads. The poems addressed Hindu gods such as the almighty Indra.
These scripts told of how the world and the heavens are inclosed in a sphere together.

Question- Were the gods created as a result of C.C.E (cross cultural encountering) like most other place?

One of the videos mainly focuses on the Veda. It talked about the Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha. All four of this have one thing in common. I belief that common thing would be how all Hindus followed these four customs. The vedas were written like in the 600 B.C
Hindus also kind of had a caste system. In their caste system th Brahims ar like the first in on top. They are the leaders of their systems. Rituals in India go from second to years and from life to death. Some special rituals would be how they take their baths. Most of them take a bath to also cleanse their bodies and spirits. Hinduism is a religion that took around 4000 years to form. Due to that many beliefs contradict one another. One belief is that there is one God made of three people. One represents creator, another destroyer, and finally the preserver. One of the main goals of the Hindus is to be able to end the rebirth cycle and become Brahmin. Some say that this belief helped the caste system last for so long because the people believed that if they fulfilled their duties within that group they will be reborn in a higher position.
In addition to achieve Brahmin Hindus also wake up every morning and take a bath. This is believed not only to cleanse the body but also the spirit. Another precaution the Hindus take is by doing exercise like yoga and meditating in a position known as the Lotus. Another rule that is respected is the sacredness of cows. Cows are used to represent the fertility of the Earth. Rituals are also very vital. In the earlier times rituals would take anywhere from days to years.
After the Upanishad was introduced reincarnation was highly believed in. Some people were believed to have came back animals due to Karma. Hinduism is mainly practiced in India but is also widely practiced in areas such as Washington DC and Singapore. It is the third largest religion in the world. It has 970 million followers.

  16. Hindusim is very complex. It is one of the worlds great relgions. It grew and gained more aspects of other religions. The Rig Veda or thousand hyms was the first of the hindu holy books to be written. the had rebirth or birth and karma told of how your next life would be. Each book stated how to live each persons life in your caste. There are approximately 9.7 million followers.
Does not have a single founder. it was instead created over 4,000 years. Hinduism has one god but with three people Brahama sheva and the preservor(she said his name to fast).
Each day just before dawn hindus rise to take a clenseing bath to cleanse their bodies and souls. they may preform yoga or breath control. Some practices seem to contrdict eachother as in old vs. new. Veda means truth. Each of the hyms were heard directly from the gods. wich were from based off of the sun moon or wind etc. The act of recieting of the hyms are sacred and they themselves are holy. Soama ritual was a liquid produced by crushing the plant was very popular during the vedic age. Cows were eaten in ancient history but now eating beef is a sin. The cow is now sacred. They believe the mocsha is the ultimate goal the end of reincarnation.
Questions- Why do they believe reincarntion is possible? Why is their morning cleanseing bath supposed to cleanse their sould as well as their body?

  17. Hey Mr. Harris, my name is James Kweon from your 5th period AP class.
Well, Hinduism first originated from India. It is one of the world's great religion. It gathered the ideas of many religions as it grew. Earliest writing was Rigveda. Later, Brahmanas and Upanishads followed as well. There is a belief of cycle of life, Samsara. The improvement and degrading of the rebirth depended on a person's karma. Teaches that people should remain and keep their duty among their social group.
Every early morning, the Hindi clean their body and mind. They also hold an ritual called Puja that worships one of the hindu gods. Some do an exercise called yoga. Sanscrit word called veda means wit, truth, and knowledge. They are organized into 4 sections, called samhitas. They contain so many informations that they are divided into 10 books. In addition, most of the hymns are based on the moon, the sun, etc. Meats are forbid, especially cows. Back then, they did eat cows but now eating a beef is a sin.
Hinduism is now the world's 3rd largest religion. Have 970 million followers. People assume that Vedas are made between 600-300 b.c.e. Brahma is triad, which means that one god with three people. There are the creator, Brahma, Shiva the destroyer, and Vision of the preserver. Dharma - righteous, religious life
Artha - success in economic life
    Kama - Gratifying the senses
    Moksha - liberation from Samsara

Hinduism was created over 35,000 years ago in Ancient India. It is the third largest religion in the whole world and it has 970,000,000 followers. Hinduism was made up from the ancient text of Vedism and the respect of Brahmanism. It also teaches people to stay within their own social caste.
Most Hindus live in India but it is spread out all over the world. The ancient text of Hinduism is the Rig Veda, which means "truth" or "knowledge". The Poems and hymns from the Rig Veda are still used today for religious ceremonies and weddings. In earlier times, some rituals could last months or even years long to preform. During the Vedic Age, one of the earliest rituals involved the somer plant. However, the Vedic texts never mentioned the beliefs and practices of a normal person while practicing Hinduism. The cow was important to the Hindus because it was considered sacred. It is a symbol of Earth's fertility.
It is also believed that the Vedic practices were to protest againts the priests. In Hinduism, there is caste system which includes four social classes. The first class was the Brahmins (priests), then the Kshatryias (warriors), the Viasyas (merchants, laborers, landowners), and then the Shrudas (untouchables). Woman can pass through these castes through marriage. Unfortunately, men can not pass because they were born into that certain caste system.

Hinduism is practiced mainly in India but has become a nationwide religion. Hindus practice a lot prayer. Hinduism is a polytheistic religion so there are many gods to praise. Hindus start there day by ‘bathing their souls.’ Some even do yoga as a part of their religious believes. In some cases they also sacrifice things in order to please their gods.
Hindus believe in the Veda, which means knowledge or truth. Veda is used to refer to Ancient scriptures. Hindus believe that there are many different prayers and practices that have to be preformed for different gods. The most common Hindu god is Indru. Indra is the god of war.
The Bahamans, which were composed somewhere between 1,000 and 800 B.C.E practiced many rituals and prayers from the books of Vedas. For Hindus, cows are sacred to their religion. Eating beef became sin. Hindus believed in reincarnation. Hindus are very self-disciplinary, they believe that if you are a good Hindu you will reincarnate into a good thing. If your have been a bad Hindu, then you will continue to be reincarnate into a bad thing. The highly good Hindus reincarnated into cows, hence the meaning of the sacred cow.
Hindus believed in the Caste System, which is basically a class ranking. Brahmins, being the highest and the Untouchables being the least important. In 326 B.C.E the troops of Alexander the great crossed the Indus River and it was said that there would be war because of this.

  21. Most people in present day start their morning with a shower, using the bathroom, and preparing themselves for theit day. In Hinduism, the people bathe themselves to not only was their bodies, but wash away spirits the spirits they believed in, followed by a ritual. Most people live in India but are spread out in different areas also. The people live from the books of the vedi library. There are 4 Vedas. They believe in the God Indra, the god of war , who somewhat reminds people of Zeus. They have very elaborate rituals that are practiced everyday. Caste systems are basically the social classes, that their people are divided into. In the caste system, there are 4 levels. These castes very highly strict and hard to move up in the system. I believe that Hinduism has spread far and wide, and continues to grow.
Although their are many religions small and large all over the world, Hinduism happens to be one of the world's largest. Hinduism in India is about 3500 years old. As their religion grew, they formed an early form of writing known as Rig Veda. After time went by,three more pieces and sections od writing were added on. They consisted of Brahmains, and the Upanishads. The people believed that the worlds and heavens were all in one sphere some what like a cosmic egg.

Last, Hinduism being one of the world's largest religons, is the exactly the 3rd largest. Hinduism has excelled far even though this religion has never had a founder, like that of other religions, such as Christianity. Their are 4 aims in Hinduism. The 4 aims are Artha, Kama, Moksha, and Dharma. The people believed those after completing those four aims then everything would be great, and they has basically fufilled all the factors of their life process.

Hinduism is a major religious and cultural tradition of the Indian subcontinent developed about 4,000 years ago. It is the third largest religion with a growing number of over 970,000,000 followers. Some individuals view Hinduism as a trinitarian because Brahman is a triad meaning one god with three people. These three people include Brahma (the creator), Shiva (the destroyer), and Vishnu (the preserver).

Like any other major religion Hinduism has sacred text known as the Vedas. The exact date of when they were created is unknown but some say it is sometime between 600-300 B.C These scared text consisted of over a 1,000 hymns usually pertaining to the many deities of Hinduism such as Indra (warrior king of heaven). Additionally the hymns were recited at religious ceremonies such as wedding and funerals, also some of the poems were used in very intricate rituals conducted by specialized priest that could span up to a year. Later on works averse to the Vedic beliefs followed such as the Brahmans and the Upanishads which expressed the beliefs of what is now Hinduism. They told of the essence of everything known as Brahman that fills everything and everyone. They explained they cycles of birth and rebirth knows as samsara and and how the sum of someone's actions in previous states of existence dictated their future.

Hinduism also provided insight into the daily lives of its followers. Rituals such as waking up every morning and taking a bath to cleanse the body and soul or doing yoga which is a spiritual and ascetic discipline, requiring breath control, meditation, and the adoption of specific body postures are just some of the many acts of worship Hindus perform. Additionally it teaches individuals to remain loyal to their social group or caste. It also states that Hindus should organize their lives around the Four Aims of Hinduism. These aims are dharma (righteousness in the religious life), artha (success in their economic life), kama (gratification of senses) and finally moksha (liberation from rebirth).

  24. Hinduism is a highly misunderstood religion. It is a major religion and is the third largest in the world. It has been developed for 3500 years. Hinduism started in India, but has now spread nation wide. Hinduism is a polytheistic belief. This meant they gave praised to many gods.
Hindus every morning rise and bath themselves. Bathing is supposes to cleanse the physical body as well as the soul. They then give praise to atleast one of their hundreds of gods. They would also do many sacrificial ceremonies to honor the gods. These sacrifices would incluide: animals, minor cuts, and humans as a whole would often be sacrificed.
The Hindus also have many holy books. The first one being the Rig Vega followed by the Upanishads. The Rig Veda consisted of thousands of hymns. Also a first Hindus were allowed to eat beef, but later in history the cow became sacred which led to the fasting of beef. Also, in Hinduism beliefs there was a caste system. In this caste system they had the ones who prayed, the ones who worked, and the untouchables. Basically a male was born into a class because it was near impossible to move up in class rank. A woman however could marry into a higher class if asked. Also, in a Hindus life they wished to fulfill moksha. Moksha was when one escaped rebirth and permanently stayed as a brahman.

The ancient religion known as Hinduism began about 3500 years ago. Being the third largest religion in the world, it quickly became the most widespread religion in India. India was in fact the birthplace of Hinduism. The vedic culture also originated in India. The Brahmins and Upanishads combined to create Hinduism. One of the most important literary works was the Rig Veda. Veda meant wisdom and knowledge. The four vedas were Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha. The history of Hinduism is an extensive one. Many Hindu tales are about the interactions with humans. There were major spreads of Upanishadic, Jaina, and Buddhist ways.

Within Hinduism were distinct traditions and rituals. Religious rituals were done on a daily basis. Majority of the Hindus did their rituals in their homes. Hinduism involved worshipping at dawn, recitation of scriptures, and the singing of hymns.Special occasions such as birth or marriage involved religious customs. In Hinduism there were also many festivals. Festivals celebrated events from Hindu Mythology. Brahmins showed the importance of giving gifts and rituals. The caste system involved the Brahmins, Kshatriyas,Vaisyas, and Shudras. Cows became sacred. Reincarnation was a big deal because Hindus tried to escape or achieve Moksha and join the Brahman. Rituals that were performed could take months to complete.

Hinduism does not have a central authority. The people who follow in the Hinduism path do not claim to be of a specific denonminataion either. Academics were the only subjects in which denominations were a part of. The society worshipped together at times and when they did they worshipped a supreme God. Together the Hindus also cleansed their spirits in early morning baths.

Hinduism like other religions has specific rituals. They take early mornig baths in the river, if in India, but can be bathe where ever they reside. This not only cleanses their physical body but their spirtual and emotional seleves. An excerise know as yoga is practiced to gain one\'s focus and mediation is also practiced to become in balance with the universe. Hinduism is compared to Greek society because of their similar beliefs. For instance, Indra a god worshipped in the Hinduism religion is compared to Zeus in Greece, because they both controled and were most powerful out of all the gods. It is also sacred to recite lines of the Rig Veda during weddings and ceremonies as such. The Brahmains, people who were the lightest and wealthier, wanted to make sure all rituals were practiced the right way. Ancient times stated that Hindu\'s used to eat beef, but the cow became sacred and a sin to eat one. This is just how the thought of reincration. The other religions like Judasim and Buddhuism were a way to try and break the caste system because the caste system was mostly permanetly and women, through marriage could move up in the system.
Hindusim was founded in ancient times in India. Hinduism is a combination of many religious ways. For instance, Brahmanism and Vedaism helped to modify and create what is now know as Hinduism. They take their religious readings from the Rig Veda which is a hymn book filled with at least a thousand of spritual hymns tht help to worship the gods. The Brahmanas and Upanishads also sculputred the religion, Hinduism. The Hindu’s believe in uniersal spirits. They believe that the earth is a giant sphere that has different essences known as Brahman. It is said to fill everyone and everything on earth. Samsara was their way of explaining the cycle of life and death. Reincarnation is also big in Hinduism and the idea of karma. Karma not only affects the person then it could also affect the outsome of the person’s fate in their other lives.
They also believe so much in the caste sysytem. Each person must remain in their social class. All duties pertaining to their rank in the caste system must be completed. Everyday should be celebrated until runrise the next day. Birth is a magnificant thing and should be chersihed until the spirit of death takes their souls. Hinduism is one of the world’s largest religions. It has over thousands and even millions of people in the group. Eventhough Hinduism has been around for quite some time, there is no offical founder of the religion. All of their scriptures come from the Vedas. Hindu’s base their lives off the four aims of the religion Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha.

  30. Hinduism is one of the worlds greatest religions born in india over 3500 years ago. In the morning instead of taking a shower in a bathroom they go to the river. This river is known as the ganges. Those who do so feel that not only there cleaning their bodys but their sperits as well. Puja is an act if worship which they burn incense and give offerings of flowers, fruits, meats, or sweets to a statue or picture of of one among hundreds of the hindu gods. Some practice yoga, breath controling, or sitting in the lutas position for hours.
"Veda" meaning truth or knowledge used spacifically to refer to ancient hindu scriptures. The earliest portions of the vedic library are organized into four seperate collections called Samhitas. One Samhita alone containd over 1,000 sperate hyms. Inspired sages belived they heared them straight from the gods.
The samhitas indicated that the ancient indians ate beef but as the years go on the "cow" became a sacrid symbol of the earth, eating beef then became a sin.

Question: When doing puja, what do they expect to happen to the offerd items? If untouched do they feel as if they have angerd the gods?

Hinduism is the third largest religion with 970 million followers today. Hinduism found upon by the mixture of the Aryans and the Dravidians. Hinduism has an old text called, the Rig Veda. It was made during approximately 600- 300 BC. The gods were based upon nature, just like the Native Americans. Hinduism is considered a polytheistic religion. Many gods include Brahma (the creator), Shiva (the destroyer), and Vishnu (the preserver). Some people in society view Hinduism as Trinitarian because Brahman is a triad meaning one good in three. Hindus tried to aim for Dharma (righteousness in their religion). Artha (success in their economic life). Kama (the gratification of senses). An d Moksha (liberation of physical incarnation).
The Vedas were holy texts in the religion of Hinduism. Many poems were written during the Vedic Age. Many of these poems described god Indra, the god of thunder and rain, great warrior. The Brahmins adopted the belief of preists in their society. Hinduism is full of different beliefs and practices and is a mix of new and old practices of Hinduism. The Brahmans and Upanishads also shape the religion of Hinduism. The Brahmins were the wealthiest in the Ancient Indian society. In the Vedic period, beef was eaten by people. But today people that eat meat in Hindu society are really committing a sin towards the gods. This is how the idea of rebirth, or reincarnation began. The people would die and if you were good in your life, you would move up into the caste system. But if you were bad in society, and you were a Brahmin, you would move down in the system or even worse, become a measly little insect.
There was a caste system that the Hindus abided to. In the caste system, there were the ones that prayed, worked and then a new addition was the untouchables. Duties were to be done in this social structure of Hinduism. In Hindu life, moksha was their goal because it gave them a time to move up in the social structure of India. Also, there were 4 social classes: Brahmins –preists, Kshatryias- warriors, Viasyas- merchents, and the Shudras- the untouchables.

Hinduism orginated in India many years ago. Today it has many followers and is the third largest religion in the world. Hinduism is a polythestic religon and revolves around hundreads of Gods. The Brahim are a trinatarion which includes 3 major Gods. The bascic idea of Hinduism is that one must reach a state of self disicpline to escape the cycle of rebirth and death.
The main ideas of Hinduism are composited mostly in the Rig Vedas and the Upinishads. The Rig Vedas were written approximently between 600-300 B.C. There are over 1,028 hyms in the Rig Veda that are song to honor gods and complete rituals. Many on them are still sang today, especailly at events such as weddings and even funerals. The basic idea of all of these holy books discuss what type of things Hindus should live throughout life.
The four main aims of Hinduism are : Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moska. Dharma is the ritiousness of religious life. Artha is the a person success economically. Kama deals with the senses. Moska means liberation. The liberation refers to the freedom the Hindus recieve after breaking the birth and rebirth cycle. By following Hindu commandments and staying loyal to the duties in the thier caste systems Hindus can make good karma for themselves and in the cycle. The caste systems include brahims, warriors, laboros, and untouchables. Only woman could change case systems and that was done only though marriage of somebody of a higher caste. Buddihsm and Janism came along, because many people of the lower caste could not perform the rituals of the Hindu. Today, many Hindus could be found worshipping at shrines or temples around the world.

Hinduism is a religion which originated in India. Hinduism derives from the holy texts, the Vedas, which are among the oldest sacred texts in the world. It is one the fastest growing religions in the world today with almost 700 million followers. Daily rituals of these Hindus include a morning bath to cleanse the body and soul. A "pooja" is offered to one of the many gods, goddesses or spirits as worship. Hinduism is a complex religion that embraces many beliefs. Many Hindu doctrines and practices seem to contradict one another as the old blends in with the new. The Vedas includes four separate parts which are known as samhitas, which in Sanskrit mean joined or collected, just as the Vedas are. These hymns each represent natural forces, such as the sun, moon, wind and addressed by the gods, goddesses or spirits. The most mentioned god is Indra, god of war. A few of the 1028 hymns of the Rig Veda are still chanted today in some ceremonies. During the Vedic Age, the most devotional activity was the Soma ritual. This ritual consisted of the cutting down of plants and singing hymns about it.Earlier Vedic texts were different than beliefs of modern day Hindus:the samhitas indicated that earlier peoples ate beef.Over the centuries, however, cows became a symbol of the earth's fertility and eating beef became a sin(this is still followed today). Also, the first Vedas described an afterlife. The idea of reincarnation, introduced by the Upanishads, took over this. Thus, the idea of moksha was developed.Moksha is the freedom of the cycle of rebirth when one is united with Brahman. This is the highest goal of Hindus. The caste system includes the Brahmins,Kshatriyas,Vaishas, and Sudras. After the sixth century B.C.E., the Vedic age slightly disappeared into the background the era of the Mauryan empire began and Asoka became emperor. He expanded the empire, but was sickened by the bloodshed of the conquests and then he embraced Buddhism.
Born 3500 years ago, Hinduism gathered the ideas of many other religions.Vedasim and Brahmanism set the foundations of Hinduism. The Vedas, a work of 1000 hymns was followed by other works such as the Brahmanas and the Upanishads, which expressed the beliefs that became Hinduism.Brahman is the essence of of all reality. The cycle of rebirth is samsara. One's past actions, karma, determine the qualities in the next life. Hinduism states the duties or dharma of every Hindu, and to stay in the same caste, as well as rituals to mark every event.
Hinduism is the primary religion of India. It has about 970 million followers around the world. It has developed over a period of 4000 years wtih no single founder. Some refer to Hinduism as trinitarian because it's mainly just one god with three people. In this case, the three people are Brahma,Shiva, and Vishnu. The four activities that Hindus organize their lives in are Dharma(duties),Artha,Kama, and Moksha.
Why is it that women can switch castes, but men have to stick to the same one?

Hinduism was created in India. However, it is known for any people to practice it in distant places such as Singapore and Washington D.C. It is predicted to have been established about 3,500 years ago. There are currently about 970 million people who practice Hinduism, which makes it the 3rd largest religion practiced. It has been said that there is no single founder, but took about 4,000 years to develop. It is referred to be a triad. This is because it has one god, which is composed of three people. They are: Brahma (the creator), Shiva (the destroyer), and Vishnu (the preserver).
The holy text of Hinduism is the Rig Veda. No one knows the exact date in which it was created, but is estimated to be around 600-300 B.C. Veda is known to be identified as “truth” and/or “knowledge”, but is often used to referred as the ancient Hindu scripture. It consists of 1,000 hymns; more than 10,000 verses; 10 books. Throughout the Vedas many gods are referred to (each representing natural forces). Indra is the most common god that is referred to. It is known for 1,028 hymns are commonly recited at religious ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and/or initiations. Both the Brahmana and Upshinad are known as the basis of Hinduism today. Brahmana was told to be composed around 1,000- 800 B.C.E. Its importance is the ritual and practice of the giving of gifts to the priest to be performed. Upshinad is the introduction of reincarnation and the continuous cycle of birth and death.
This religion has four main aims. They are Dharma (live a righteous, religious life), Artha (economic success in life), Karma (gratify the sense), and Moksha (liberation from Samsara). They have many rituals and practices. Meat is known to be a sin. Followers wake up every day to a bath which they believe cleanses not only the body, but the spirit too. They practice yoga which allows them to focus on breathing and lotus (a position in which they sit in) for hours. They also have a ritual known as pudga which include burning incents and offering things with a picture/statue of one of the many gods present.

Hinduism is an ethnic religion that is localized mostly in India with followers spread across the globe. It is the third largest religion with 970 million followers. The modern region we know today has come from the belief system itself evolving from the mixture of Aryan and Dravidian traditions. The holy texts are known as the Vedas, the Vedas are poems used to describe the gods. Most poems described Indra, who was a particularly violent god. The practices that were developed during the birth of Hinduism are still practiced today but are mixed and even contradicted by the beliefs and traditions of modern Hinduism.

Many common practices of Hinduism include many activities used to calm the mind allowing clarity when thinking about the gods. One practice is known as a Punjab, a practice where incests are burned while covering as given to the gods. Another practice is the exercise system of yoga. In the lotus position, a position where you sit with one crossed above the other, some practice breath control for hours. IN ancient time hymns from the Rig Vedas were chanted, so are still recited today at very important ceremonies. Modern scientists do not understand all of the rituals done in the Vedic Age.

Hinduism is described as a polytheistic religion with gods that are used to describe natural phenomenon, some gods hold parallels to Greek mythology; such as Indra being like Zeus. There are many gods with their numbers in the hundreds. Many other objects in the Hindu religion are also held as sacred, the cow for example was once eaten by ancient Hindus buy as the religion progressed the cow became a more holy animal representing the fertility of the earth, which is now a sin to eat.
The main goal of Hinduism is too escape from the cycle of reincarnation by rejoining Brahman, this is by accomplishing four things; Artha, Dharma, Kama, and Moksha. Artha being economic successes; Dharma being your duty to your religion; Kama which is gratifying one sense, and finally Moksha being the liberation from suffering. This cycle of reincarnation is the basis of the caste system, where the action in your prior life effected who you were reborn as. This belief justified the poor treatment of the lower classes, by thinking their place was decided by their past actions. This may explain the rise of Buddhism and Jainism because the lower caste members were not allowed to participate in Hindu rituals they may have went elsewhere for divine guidance.

Hinduism was a religion that originated in India. It is one of the worlds largest religion with many followers. The followers of a certain time period went by a book called the Vedas. Veda means knowledge or truth. The people then created a caste system. That is when many people split from Hinudism and the belief systems of Jaoism and Buddism started. Cows in the begging of the of Hindiusm were not sacred and many people did eat them. It was until the sixth centruy when cows became sacred animals. Reincarnation was introduced to the people when the Upshinads became known to the people. Many people were thought to go through reincarnation and wanted to achieve moksha so they would not have to go through the painful process of reincarnation.

Hinduism originated in India about 3500 years ago. It is the third most popular religion today with almost 970 million followers and counting. The beliefs of the religion are polytheistic and followers pray to hundreds of Gods. The holy text Hindu’s follow by is the Rig Veda. The book is not as commonly followed as it was in ancient times. Many of the new teachings of Hinduism have contradicted the beliefs of ancient teachings.
As well as the Rig Veda, the Hindus have a long list of rituals that are sometimes required to do. The rituals that the Hindu followers practice are required to do begin at birth and are done until death. Ancient rituals could last from hours to even years depending on the significance. The rituals were very important to the Hindus because it showed their allegiance to their Gods.
Lastly, the Hindus do many things that involve their inner soul. For example, in the morning many Hindus take a bath which is not only used to wash their body but their soul too. Also, Hindus meditate in the position of Lotus to keep their spirit at rest. Although, most Hindus are in India, they can still be found in places all over the world.

The Hindu religion was extremely fixated on balance in life established by the four aims, and also very fixated on the system of gods. They worked to establish peace and success in all parts of their life, and more importantly sought to become one with their all encompassing god and life force, Brahman. The Vedas and Upanishads were manuals to this religion, and paths to Brahman, while the strong practices and rituals were a sign of their strong discipline in reaching all four morals.

The division of the four aims is actually similar to a goal list to gain freedom from reincarnation. The idea of dharma was significant, establishing a strong religious discipline is the first step on the list, and most likely the building block for the others except for artha. Artha was based on success in economics, and helped make a strong work ethic. The idea of kama is interesting, and it invloves gratifications of the senses. This could be through excercises taught in different Vedas, or maybe in other texts. The ultimate aim is moksha, which aims at Brahman, the triadic godhead.

Brahman is a god consisting of three, which continue and make a nearly endless pantheon. The many gods of hinduism are descended from Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. These three gods form Brahman, who is the perfect and ultimate being, made up of all beings. Shiva being the destroyer, is polar opposite to himself as Brahma the creator and yet both parts function thanks to the third god, Vishnu, the protector. All of these gods are efficient in creating more and mpre complicated god counterparts and consorts.

    Q-1
If all gods are one god, does that make Hinduism monotheistic, or are some gods like Brahman?

    Q-2
What happens when Shiva and Brahma get wise to Vishnu's game of the "good brother"?

  44. Hinduism is a complex religion born from a mixing of various ideology and beliefs. Believed to have started around 3500 years ago, it is the oldest living religion. The first book, Rig Veda, contains hymns used by the priest when conducting various ceremonies. These ceremonies were quite elaborate, thus requiring highly learned priests hence the priest held the most power and were atop of the social system, caste system.

The caste system is just one of many unique ideologies found in Hinduism. Others include: reincarnation, karma, yoga, samasara, and moksa.
The caste system is broken down into four main groups (brahmin, kshyatriyas, vaishyas, and shudras) and one outcaste group (the untouchables). The basic belief is that a soul is entrapped in a cycle of repeated birth and death and the only means of escape is through moksha, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death. This is achieved by following the teachings of the vedas according to one's caste.

In todays world Hinduism is much different than the early periods. Hinduism is the third largest religion with over 700 million followers. The caste system is not rigidly followed in most parts of India, although some parts still follow it. Hinduism has spread throught the world and now is practiced in just about every country. The main difference today is that there are more sub-groups within Hinduism each following a different doctorine.

Hinduism is the 3rd largest religion in the world. It is seemingly unusual that Hinduism does not have a single founder, it was developed over the time period of a thousand years. Along with not having a single founder, Hindus are also polytheistic and have hundreds of gods. Most religions have a religious book, that teaches practices for living a holy life, according to the religion. The holy books of Hinduism are the Vedas. Veda is a Sanskrit word, meaning knowledge or truth. The Vedas were spiritual books that set precedents for living life righteously. The most important book of the Vedas was the Rig Veda, a spiritual hymn book containing over a thousand hymns honoring the Hindu gods, such as Indra, Varuna, and Agni. Specifically, the Four Aims of Hinduism entail the components for an honorable Hindu Life. Dharma is the one of the Four Aims that refers to rectitude in the religious life. Another one of the Four aims is Artha. Artha is the practice of success in the economic aspect of a Hindu’s life. The final two Aims are Kama, which is a “gratification of the senses”, and Moksha which is liberation from Samsara. Samsara is the practice of reincarnation.
There are many interesting practices of the Hindu people. Most Hindus rise before dawn and take a bath, not only does the bath cleanse the body it’s also believed to cleanse the spirit. Some of the Hindu people proceed the bath with the burning of incense and offerings of flowers, sweets, milk, or fruits to the Gods. This process is called, Apucha, and is usually performed in front of a small statue or shrine area to one of the many gods of the Hindu religion. In addition to Apucha the well-known exercise, yoga, is performed my many Hindus. Somewhat like meditation, the Hindu people practice breath control, in a body position called lotus. The lotus position entails sitting with the back erect, each foot rested upon the opposite knee. Breath control practicing continues for hours on end. Among Hindu practices, fire sacrifices were once practiced in the Ancient, or “Vedic Age” of the Hindu religion.
According to historians the origin of Hinduism dates back to 5000 years ago. In relation to the large river in India, the Indus River, the word Hindu was derived from Indus. In ancient times the river was called the 'Sindhu', but the Persians who migrated to India called the river 'Hindu', the land 'Hindustan' and its inhabitants 'Hindus'. Thus the religion followed by the Hindus came to be known as 'Hinduism'. Unlike many structured and controlled religions, Hinduism does not base its beliefs into one belief system. Hinduism represents a broad spectrum of beliefs and practices. Hinduism is an interesting religion.

  47. Hinduism is first seen in present day India. It is a polythestic religion, worships many Gods/Godesses. It is the oldest known religion having roots back about 3500 years ago. The oldest book is the Rig Veda, which teaches the religous ceremonies. All religous rituals were done by the brahmins, who were the priests.

There are many unique beliefs of Hinduism, influenced by other societies. One of the most prominent beliefs was the caste system. The caste system broke down the population into different groups according to their activities. The highest classes were the brahmins(priests) and the kshatriyas(administrators and noble class). Then there was the vaishyas(merchents) followed by the shudras(laborers). An additional caste was created by the Aryans called the untouchables(people who did low level jobs).

Since first founded 3500 years ago, Hinduism has changed drastically. No longer is it a religion just found in India, but now it can be found all over the world. Unlike ancient followers, the people nowadays do not believe in the caste system. Still the core beliefs are still practiced although varing from place to place.

It was very hard for men to move up in caste but women could achieve a higher rank through marriage. Hindi’s believe in karma and that what goes around will come back to you.

India’s prominent religion is Hinduism, a hodgepodge of various influences mixed in over the course of several thousand years. Unlike other universal religions, Hinduism does not have a single founder who established doctrine. Instead, Hinduism evolved from early Vedic teachings. The Vedas were a collection of sacred writings full of hymns, sacrificial rituals, and prayers, plus how to give offerings to priests. Many Vedas praised Indra, the God of war. Vedic teachings outlined the caste system. Brahmins, on top, were priests. Below them were Kshatriyas (warriors), Vaishyas (peasants), and Sudras (untouchables). Only those on top of the caste system, Brahmins, were allowed to perform the rituals and prayers.

As time went on, the Vedas were followed by another series of texts called the Upanishads. These texts were more detailed than the Vedas in the fact that they described Gods. The Upanishads laid out the foundation of the God Brahma, and the three forms that Brahma was expressed through; Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer. The writings also tell of reincarnation, whereas the Vedas described an afterlife. The Upanishads explain how Moksha can be reached by letting go of all worldly ties and connecting with inner Brahman. Moksha is the escape of the cycle of rebirth and redeath.

Through disgreement with these sacred texts, Buddhism and Jainism were formed. As time progressed, Buddhism had many influences on Hinduism, especially when a ruler supported Buddhism. Today’s Hinduism only partially resembles the base that it was formed upon. For example, in Vedic age cow was not considered a sign of fertility and was commonly eaten, unlike today where it is holy.

Hinduism is a polytheistic/monotheistic religion in that the one God is three. Followers of Hinduism practice activities such as yoga, in order to calm the mind. They chant many hymns from the original Vedas at events such as births, deaths, etc. They try to escape reincarnation by having good karma and progressing through the castes until they finally unite Brahman.

Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world but little known fact is that it has no founder but has developed over a long period of years. The main god worshiped is Buddha. Buddha is a “Trinitarian” meaning he is one god that stands for three people. The three people he stands for are the creator, preserver, and the destroyer. Hinduism has four main aims they are Drama, Karma, Artha, and Moksha.
Hinduism was born in India about 3500 years ago. The two main elements that make up Hinduism are Vedism and Brahmanism. The Earliest writings were the Veda. They were the thousands of works in one book. Following them came the Bramans and the Upanishads. It was believed that the world and earth was a cosmos sphere and that it was the essence of reality. They also believed in the cycle of birth and rebirth. This belief was known as Samsara. Also, they believed that karma was how ones past actions would determine their next life. Hinduism taught that people should stay in their own social group or caste.
Hindus can be found in India but also Singapore and Washington, D. C. Rituals start in the morning with a bath and Apucha. During Apucha, they burn incense and give sacrifices like flowers, fruits, milk or sweets to a picture of one of the Hindu gods. The Sanskrit word ‘veda’ meaning truth or knowledge is often used when referring to ancient Hindu scriptures. Some gods are believed to represent natural forces. They are Sun, Moon and wind. The most mentioned god is Indra, which resembles Zeus, the Greek god. The Rig veda is recited at all sacred ceremonies. Eating beef became a sin because the cow was a symbol of the Earth’s fertility. Reincarnation was introduced. Ashoka was a big influence on the Morian Dynasty. He expended the empire through conquest. He offered passage to Buddhism.

It also explained Brahma, which is in everyone and everything. Samsara and karma was also described. This means that the actions of a person in one life will come back in the next. The gods were also described in the Upanishads. Hinduism used a caste system inlcuding the Brahmins, priests, the Kshatryias, the warriors, the Viasyas the merchants and landowners, and the Shrudas. A lower class was added later on called the Untouchables, whom had dirty and unpleasant jobs. Many of these classes were unchangeable and hereditary. Women, on the other hand could move up through marriage. Hindus often practice interesting traditions. They rise before dawn to bathe both the body and the spirit. This renewed them and prepared them for the day. A process called Apucha was performed that allowed Hindus to bath with urning of incense and offerings of flowers, sweets, milk, or fruits to the Gods. It primarily occurred in front of a small statue or shrine area in honor of one of the Hindu gods. Yoga is also commonly performed by Hindus. Similar to meditation, the Hindus relax their body in a lotus position. This allows the Hindus to practice breath control. Fire sacrifices were also once practiced in the Vedic Age of the Hindu religion.
